Aloe Canyon 40X16, oil on canvas

In the spring of 2020, my partner and I had a trip planned to Arizona. When the world shut down due to the global pandemic, vacationing was put on hold and I was bummed. I had planned to take a ton of pictures, paint and come home full of desert memories and ideas for new works. The images of the desert and the vibrant colors of the landscape still haunt me, and I yearn for those southwest spaces and big skies. The vivid, warm color palette I chose for this piece captures the visual richness influenced by the desert landscape, and my dreams longing for that experience put on hold for another time.
